High school teacher and mother, Jessica Martin, has her comfortable suburban life turned topsy-turvy in one day. After sending her son, Ricky, off to school, a group of thugs, led by the menacing Ethan, breaks into her home and brings her to an unknown location. But necessity is the mother of invention, and the smashed up phone that is left in the room with her isn't quite dead. By touching two wires together, Jessica is able to make phone calls to random numbers. She finally gets through to a laid-back surfer, Ryan, who doesn't believe her at first. Could she be just another prank caller? However, the desperation in her voice eventually compels him to help her. It dawns on Ryan that he could be the only one who can help Jessica and her son.
